Israel lauds India’s science prowess

Lauding India's capacity for science and innovation, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu told visiting Indian home minister Rajnath Singh that India had always produced the best mathematicians. He said his uncle who was a mathematician, used to tell him that the best mathematicians came from India.

Commending the achievements of Israel and Israelis in different fields, Singh lamented the lack collaboration in science between people from the two old civilisations.

Netanyahu told Singh Israel was ready and willing to discuss transfer and development of technologies with India and that a delegation from Israeli industry would be happy to visit India to explore manufacturing opportunities in different sectors.

Singh also expressed interest in the possibility of jointly exploring markets in Africa and Latin America, where Indian industry has a strong presence.

Netanyahu Singh discussed the regional situation and the evolving threats to the global communities from terror.

Singh pointed out that terror was a threat not only to countries like India and Israel but to the whole world.

They reviewed existing cooperation and explored future possibilities of enhancing engagement in dealing with the threat

The home minister, a former professor of physics, also shared with Netanyahu, the story of Heisenberg's uncertainty principle being inspired by Rabindranath Tagore, PTI reported.

Heisenberg had spent some time in India as the guest of the celebrated poet in 1929 during which he had long conversations about science and philosophy.
