China would stick to its current policy course since the economy was headed in the right direction despite complicated circumstances, Chinese premier Wen Jiabao said in remarks released today.

Speaking at a symposium of industrial leaders and economists earlier this week, Wen said, "We should maintain the continuity and stability of macro economic policies."

Global financial markets have raised concerns about a series of measures aimed at cooling property rates and slowing bank lending leading to an abrupt slowdown in the world's third-largest economy.

However, the government portal, www.gov.cn, paraphrased Wen as saying that the economy was now headed in the expected direction of macro control."

According to Wen the government needed to strike the right balance between sustaining growth and managing inflation expectations, even as it made structural adjustments for the transformation of China's economic model and laid a solid basis for rapid longer-term development.

"We should have a good grasp of the strength, rhythm and focus of implementing policies to further strengthen the momentum of economic growth," he said.
