Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has proposed introducing ro-ro (roll over- roll off) services from Ferry Wharf in Mumbai to Mandva across the harbour.

The service will help the people to take their vehicles from Mumbai to by boat, thus reducing three hours to reach the Mumbai-Goa-Highway.

In a statement, the MMRDA said that government approval  was expected soon, and that it had already commenced its research on the feasibility of the project.

The Mumbai Port Trust has given a green signal to the project to construct a passenger terminal at Ferry Wharf.

According to the MMRDA, the present waiting room at Ferry Wharf will be replaced by the proposed passenger terminal,  and the Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers' jetty will be used as a terminal at Mandva.

Board approval from Bombay Port Trust is expected soon, with BPT chairman having visited MMRDA to discuss and plan the upcoming ro-ro project.
