Core sector industrial production in India up 7.9% in September

Core sector industrial production in India expanded 7.9 per cent year-on-year in September 2022, on the back of higher production of cement, coal, fertilisers, electricity, steel and petroleum refinery products.

The combined index of the eight core industries, viz, coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilizers, steel, cement and electricity, comprise 40.27 per cent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), has shown a 9.6 per cent increase in April-September 2022-23, as per provisional estimates, released by the commerce ministry.
Final growth rate of production of core industries for June 2022 now stands revised to 13.1 per cent from its provisional level of 12.7 per cent. 
Production of coal, which has a weight of 10.33 per cent in the index, increased by 12.0 per cent in September 2022 over September 2021 while cumulative coal production increased by 21.0 per cent during April-September 2022-23.
Production of crude oil (weight of 8.98 per cent in IIP) declined by 2.3 per cent in September 2022 while cumulative production of crude oil declined by 1.3 per cent during April-September 2022-23 over the corresponding period of the previous year.
Production of natural gas (weight of 6.88 per cent in IIP) declined by 1.7 per cent in September 2022 while cumulative production of natural gas increased by 1.8 per cent during April-September 2022-23.
Petroleum refinery production (weight of 28.04 per cent in IIP) increased by 6.6 per cent in September 2022 while cumulative refinery output increased by 10.1 per cent during April-September 2022-23.
Fertilizer production (weight of 2.63 per cent in IIP) increased by 11.8 per cent in September 2022 while cumulative production of fertilisers increased by 11.5 per cent during April-September 2022-23.
Steel production (weight of 17.92 per cent in IIP) increased by 6.7 per cent in September 2022 while cumulative steel production increased by 6.4 per cent during April-September 2022-23.
Cement production (weight of 5.37 per cent in IIP) increased by 12.1 per cent in September 2022 while its cumulative production increased by 10.9 per cent during April-September 2022-23.
Electricity generation (weight of 19.85 per cent in IIP) increased by 11.0 per cent in September 2022 while cumulative electricity generation increased by 10.7 per cent during April-September 2022-23.
