Inflation rate based on the wholesale price index of food articles in the country declined sharply to 13.75 per cent (provisional) during the week ended 16 October 2010 from 15.53 per cent (provisional) in the previous week.

The decline was due mainly to lower prices of fruits and vegetables (-4 per cent), bajra, jowar, fish, masur and urad (-1 per cent each).

The index for the 'food articles' group declined 0.7 per cent to 179.5 (provisional) during the week, from 180.8  (provisional) in the previous week, due to lower prices of fruits and vegetables (-4 per cent) and bajra, jowar, fish-inland, masur and urad (-1 per cent each).

However, the prices of poultry chicken, arhar and fish-marine (4 per cent each) and barley (3 per cent) moved up.
