She said the government has set up a group of ministers to consider all measures, including legislative and administrative, to tackle corruption and improve transparency in governance.

The group will suggest ways of fast-tracking of cases against public servants charged with corruption as also amendments to the relevant laws to facilitate quicker action against public servants.

It will also consider issues relating to state funding of elections, the president said.

The group will consider issues relating to the formulation of a public procurement policy and enunciate standards for public procurement.

The group will review and suggest ways of abolishing discretionary powers enjoyed by the various ministers and introduction of an open and competitive system of exploiting natural resources.
