India's industrial production grows at slower 4.4 per cent in September

Industrial production in the country grew at an even slower pace of 4.4 per cent year-on-year in September 2010 against the 5.6 per cent growth recorded in the previous month.

What is more worrying is that capital goods registered a fall in production with a negative (-) 4.2 per cent year-on-year growth in September 2010, reflecting a decline in overall industrial activity.

The general index of industrial production (IIP) with base 1993-94 stood at 325.6 in September 2010 was up 4.4 per cent from September 2009, quick estimates by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) showed.

The index stood at 309.1 in the previous month (August 2010).

Industrial production in the country grew at a cumulative 10.2 per cent during April-September 2010-11 over the corresponding period of the previous year.

The indices of production for the mining, manufacturing and electricity sectors during September 2010 stood at 184.1, 355.2, and 239.9 respectively, with corresponding year-on-year growth rates of 5.2 per cent, 4.5 per cent and 1.7 per cent, respectively.
