India's consumer price inflation edges up to 3.21% in August

Consumer price inflation in the country rose to 3.21 per cent in August, after falling slightly to 3.15 per cent in July from 3.18 per cent in June, provisional figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed.

The inflation rate based on the consumer price index (CPI) was 3.69 per cent in August 2018.
Data released by the CSO showed that inflation rate for the food basket rose further to 2.99 per cent in August from 2.36 per cent in July.
The level of inflation is still below the Reserve Bank’s medium-term inflation target, although it continues to fluctuate.
Consumer price inflation for the rural areas declined slightly to 2.18 per cent in August from 2.19 per cent in July. It was 3.41 per cent in August 2018.
Consumer price inflation for the urban areas shot up to 4.49 per cent in August from 4.22 per cent in July 2019. It was 3.99 per cent in August 2018.
Food price inflation for rural areas rose slightly and stood 0.85 per cent in August from 0.57 per cent in July 2019. It was 1.14 per cent in August 2018.
Food price inflation for urban areas increased slightly to 7.07 per cent in August against 5.61 per cent in July 2019. It was (-) 1.12 per cent in August 2018.
