Govt confident of support for land bill: Venkaiah Naidu

The government is confident of garnering enough support in Parliament when the Land Acquisition Bill comes up in Lok Sabha again, with parliamentary affairs minister Venkaiah Naidu insisting there would be further amendments would be made to the Bill.

Naidu reiterated the government's line that that the bill was in favour of farmers, with the interests of the poor having also been kept in mind in preparing the bill.

Slamming the Congress for its opposition to the bill, Naidu said that the senior leaders of the Congress also supported the draft bill when it was discussed earlier.

He added that the chief ministers of Congress-ruled states had backed the draft bill.

Describing the bill as pro-farmer, the he added that the government has done everything in favour of the farmers and for their overall development.
