A Danish woman was gang-raped by a group of eight men near New Delhi Railway Station late on Tuesday, shaming the nation yet again.

The 51-year-old Danish woman, who is in India on a tourist visa, was returning from a visit to a museum. She lost her way to the hostel where she was staying when a group of men waylaid her and gang-raped her.

The Delhi Police said she was first looted at knife point, and then gang-raped by the group.

Police suspect people, who are drug addicts and stay at roadside in the Paharganj area, might be involved in the crime.

Police have, meanwhile, requested the victim, who was supposed to leave for her country on Wednesday morning, to stay back and assist the probe.

Police said they have identified all the eight men who were involved in the incident from CCTV footage.

They have found enough material for prosecution and subsequent punishment of all the accused.

The police also asserted that there could be useable CCTV footage of the incident.

The incident comes a day after a German woman was alleged molestation in a Chennai-bound Mangalore Express.

There has been an alarming increase in crime against foreign nationals, especially women, in the past two months.

Earlier in January, a Polish woman was allegedly raped by a taxi driver in Mathura.

The woman said she was abducted at knife point by the taxi driver in Mathura who later drugged and raped her. When the victim regained her senses, she found herself in Delhi's Nizamuddin area.

Back in December 2013, a Yoga instructor was arrested for raping his 25-year-old student, a Dutch woman in Goa.

The accused, Krishna Sharma, who is in his thirties and hails from Uttar Pradesh, was arrested at Dabolim airport when he was trying to escape after the incident, police said.
