In recently released reports, the Comptroller & Auditor General of India – in the public eye after its report on the 2G spectrum scam – has pulled up both the Orissa and the Andhra Pradesh governments.

It has also been summoned by the Delhi high court in connection with a report slamming some private schools in New Delhi.

In Orissa, the CAG has recommended shutting down as many as 33 ''non-working'' state-run companies; while the Andhra Pradesh government has been criticised for frittering Rs36,165 crore on 206 projects which are nowhere near completion.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday called for the presence of an official of the CAG to clarify certain findings of a report which indicts 25 private schools in the National Capital Region for accounting malpractices, including faking losses.

The accounting general (audit) of the CAG has been asked to appear on 8 April, when lawyers for the indicted private schools will argue against the charges.

The CAG official was called during a bench hearing of a petition filed by an activist organisation that challenged the Delhi government's decision to allow these schools to hike tuition and development fees.
