Teacher scam: HC upholds 10-year jail term for Chautala, son
05 March 2015
The Delhi High Court on Thursday upheld a 10-year jail term for former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala and his son Ajay Chautala in the junior basic teacher recruitment scam.
The Chautalas and eight others had been awarded 10 years jail term for illegally recruiting 3,000 junior teachers in the year 2000.
Justice Siddharth Mridul said O P Chautala being the chief minister of Haryana at that time was ''more responsible'' for the scam.
It also dismissed all the 55 appeals filed by the accused against the sentencing order by the trial court.
Among other convicts, 44 have been sentenced to four years in jail and one to five years. The convicts had appealed in Delhi High Court which had reserved its order in the last hearing.
All of them were held guilty of cheating, forgery, using fake documents as genuine, and conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code and for abusing their official position under Prevention of Corruption Act.
