Uttarakhand: Setback to BJP as Khanduri loses; Congress in close battle

The ruling Bhartiya Janata Party in Uttarakhand received a huge setback today with chief minister Bhuvan Chand Khanduri losing to S S Negi of the Congress despite emerging the single-largest party in the state with an expected 32 seats against 30 for the Congress.

The BJP's "Khanduri hain zaroori" poll campaign flopped and he lost to S S Negi of the Congress from Kotdwar seat.

Ramesh Pokhriyal, the man Khanduri replaced as chief minister, however, won.

The BSP has won two seats and was leading in one while others won four seats. Counting for rest of the seats is going on.

BJP state president Bishan Singh Chufal won from Didihaat seat defeating Rewati Joshi of Congress by 10,617 votes.

BJP candidate Kiran Chand Mandal defeated BSP's Narayan Pal in Sitarganj Assembly constituency.
