Indian Army conducts user trials of BrahMos cruise missile

New Delhi: India successfully conducted a user trial of the land attack version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile in a bid to test its capabilities on targets located in inaccessible hilly areas, defence ministry sources said.

Ministry sources said the test met all mission parameters.

This is the 25th launch of BrahMos missile for the Indian Army.

MoD sources said the version of the BrahMos that was tested can be guided through mountainous terrain towards targets.

It is a stealth supersonic cruise with a range of 290 km and can carry a conventional warhead of up to 300 kg. It can attain top speeds of Mach 2.8, approximately three times the speed of sound.

The BrahMos can be launched from submarines, ships and aircraft.

Sea- and ground-launched versions of the missile have been successfully tested and put into service with the Indian Army and navy. The air launched version will be available for tests next year onwards.
