Israel Army chief Maj Gen Avi Mizrahi arrives on three-day India visit

Maj Gen Avi MizrahiIsrael's army chief, Major General Avi Mizrahi, has arrived in India on a three-day visit aimed at  enhancing rapidly-growing defence ties between the two countries.

General Mizrahi will meet Indian Army chief General Deepak Kapoor and also minister of state for defence production, Rao Inderjit Singh. He will be unable to meet defence minister AK Antony and his deputy MM Pallam Raju who are on a visit to the United States.

Gen Mizrahi will also meet the chiefs of staff committee chairman and Indian Navy chief, Admiral Sureesh Mehta, during the course of his stay here.

The Israeli army chief is expected to discuss matters of mutual concern and interest, including joint military training and exercises between the forces of the two countries during his meetings with the top brass of the Indian armed forces.

Of long-standing interest to the Indians is the Israeli offer to exercise and train in anti-insurgency and anti-terrorist operations, defence ministry sources said.
