Yahoo, Apple, Adobe plan X'mas-New Year shut-down: report

Internet firm Yahoo Inc, Apple Computers and Adobe Systems will keep their offices worldwide closed during the Christmas-New Year holidays, as part of cost cutting measures, media reports said today.
According to The Wall Street Journal, recession-hit Yahoo! is shutting down its offices, except for "essential functions," from 25 December to 1 January, as part of the company's cost-cutting programme.
Silicon Valley firm Yahoo! that provides internet services worldwide has cut nearly 700 staff in the spring and, as of the end of the third quarter, it employed 13,200 people, the Journal said.
San Jose, California-based Adobe Systems Incorporated would close its offices from 24 December to 1 January during the Christmas-New Year holidays.
The company, which was earlier focused on the creation of multimedia and creativity software products, has now forayed into rich Internet application software development.
Apple Inc that designs and manufactures consumer electronics and computer software products, including the Macintosh computer, the iPod, and the iPhone, is also planning a week-long shut-down.
