New Delhi: Till now hardware distributors had been promoting laptops and PCs by offerring free Reliance data cards. But now, in an audacious promotional move, Reliance has turned the concept of promos - tagging on a lower priced freebie to a higher-priced product, on its head.

Hardselling its internet data card, Reliance Communications is offering a free laptop on the purchase of a net connection. To obtain the laptop all a customer has to do is take a two-year net connection with a Rs1,500 monthly tariff plan from Reliance.

Reliance Communications has entered into a strategic agreement with five leading laptop makers - HCL, Intel, Acer, Asus and Lenovo to offer its customers free laptops along with their new internet connections.

More details regarding availability, schemes and pricing are expected to be released shortly.

Commenting on the move, RCom president Mahesh Prasad said, "The growth of internet services in India is one of the key visions of Reliance Communications. The next phase of growth of internet penetration in the country is linked to the growth in PC and laptop penetration.''

Reliance Communications is India's second largest telecom and Internet company with around a million broadband subscribers.
