Flipkart has extended its Motorola Guarantee, which it offered a month back, to other smartphone brands such as Lenovo, Vivo, and OPPO.
Expecting an increase in smartphone sales, Flipkart had introduced the offer with leading smartphone brands for its upcoming Big10 sale.
The Flipkart BuyBack Guarantee had been exclusively valid on Motorola Moto G5 Plus smartphone earlier. The pilot programme, which started in March proved to be a huge success and hence it decided to make the facility a permanent feature for smartphones after the Big 10 sale.
Under the offer, users can exchange their old phone at a specified price when they purchased a new smartphone via the e-commerce site.
The 'BuyBack Guarantee offer' will ensure that customers will be able to sell their old devices to Flipkart and receive a decent amount when they bought a new smartphone. The facility would be launched for Lenovo, Motorola, Vivo and Oppo models at Rs399. However, this particular price tag could increase to cover more devices.
Ayyappan Rajagopal, senior director of smartphones, Flipkart, said, ''This kind of program, along with other affordability programs (low-cost EMI and other) will offer a 50-70% jump in sales in general, but during sale time, the increase is likely to be in the range of 2x to 2.5x''.
According to commentors, the buyback guarantee was like buying insurance cover for the phone. Under the programme, Flipkart promised to buy smartphone back at the value agreed on to ensure maximum returns for the customer.
According to Rajagopal, the assured buyback programme will be a novelty in the Indian market. It will be offered across nearly half the phone models during the sale, on phones that were priced between Rs 10,000 and Rs 80,000.
Customers could get around 35 per cent and 50 per cent of the MRP of the purchased phone when they returned or exchanged it for a new smartphone within a period of six to eight months or more, depending on the terms and conditions at the time of buying the guarantee.
