US auto giant Ford Motor Company anticipates a boost in its revenues for the first quarter, compared to same period last year, according to the company's Americas president Mark Fields who was speaking at an auto-industry breakfast in Detroit yesterday.

Without providing any specific figures, Fields said, '' Not only did we have balanced share growth, but year-over-year, our incentives were down and our revenue was up."

"Our intent for this year is to be profitable in North America, profitable in automotive, and profitable as a company," he said.

The company is expected to come out with its first-quarter earnings at the end of April.

Data provided by market researcher Autodata Corporation indicated that Ford's market share in the US increased by 2.7 per cent in the first quarter.

''The last time we had a gain that big was back in the fourth quarter of 1977,'' Fields said.
