Coca-Cola India today unveiled an expansion of its product portfolio in India with the launch of ready-to-drink ice tea brand, Nestea in Mumbai.

The move comes within six months of its global archrival PepsiCo's Indian arm and Tata Tea signing an initial pact to consider introducing non-carbonated ready-to-drink beverages in the indian market (See: Tata Tea, PepsiCo in beverages alliance).

Nestea, with a presence in 60 countries, is a global brand licensed to Beverage Partners Worldwide, a 50-50 joint venture between the Coca-Cola Company and Nestle S. A., formed in 2001.

In India, the product is being introduced in a lemon flavour in an 400ml pet bottle, priced at Rs25. The company claims that the product contains no added preservatives or colours.

To be available in Mumbai initially as of today, the product will be rolled out in a phased manner in other areas, with Coca-Coloa India saying that it was looking at pan-India rollout next year.

''Our entry into the ready-to-drink iced tea segment with the globally successful Nestea now provides the consumers with a convenient on-the-go option, which is in keeping with evolving consumer lifestyle,'' says, Ricardo Fort, vice president, marketing, Coca-Cola India.
