Amazon the winner as Apple, Samsung offer big phone discounts

Apple and Samsung are bothselling smartphones at a discount on Amazon India, which seems to have become a battleground for both companies.
While Apple has slashed prices of its iPhone 5c by 30 per cent exclusively on Amazon, its rival Samsung has discounted by 23 per cent its Galaxy S4 smartphones on the same website.
It is estimated that the two companies have sold almost 1 lakh units together on Amazon - the highest ever for these models through a single point of sales.
As per latest estimates, Samsung continues to lead the Indian smartphone market, although its share is under pressure from Micromax.
In the Rs20,000-plus phone category, Samsung leads, followed by Apple, which has a third of the market.
An Amazon India spokesperson confirmed that sales of both Apple and Samsung devices had been exceptionally good.
Neither company commented on the matter.
