Intel ties-up with Croma to launch Windows 8.1 devices

Intel, in collaboration Croma, will launch two Windows 8.1-based devices – a 10.1-inch 2-in-1 PC with a keyboard attachment, and a tablet featuring an 8-inch display.

The tie-up between the companies was announced yesterday, when they unveiled the 8-inch Croma 1179 tablet and 10-inch Croma 1177 2-in-1 PC, powered by Intel Atom Z3735D 1.33GHz processors – Bay Trail T chipset.

The 8-inch tablet supports Wi-Fi, while the 10-inch, 2-in-1 device comes with a slot for 3G connectivity additionally. Data dongles can also be connected to support the internet on both devices to target users whose jobs entailed work on the move.

The 2-in-1, 10-inch model, which comes with a price tag of Rs21,990, is the cheapest Windows 8.1 2-in-1 PC. The device comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Office 365 and with the SIM slot, data dongle connectivity support and Office 365 feature. Microsoft and Croma are projecting the Croma 1177 as a 2-in-1 PC to be especially handy for internet access, on the go.

The 8-inch tablet variant, being offered for Rs 13,990, had been designed with 2-mp cameras on both sides, as also a screen resolution of 1,280 × 800 pixels. Both the devices would come with a 32GB internal storage, as also a microSD card slot for expansion.

The devices will be available in India, just weeks following the launch of the Asus Zenfone series in the country.

The 8-inch Croma 1179 tablet and the 10-inch Croma 1177 2-in-1 PC, would be available only at the Croma outlets and the  company's online retail site.

The 8-inch tablet comes with 2GB RAM, along with 32GB flash storage. It would have a 5000 mAh battery, which goes well with the other specs. The display has a resolution of 1280×800 pixels, which, according to commentators was a good option given the screen size.
