IBM completes largest EDU-SAT based live e-learning programme in Karnataka

Karnataka: IBM today announced tits delivery of the phase-3 of EDU-SAT satellite programme in Karnataka, in collaboration with Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum (VTU).

The education programme transmitted over 100 hours of live lectures via satellite to over 120 schools in the state, which was attended by 15,000 engineering students.

IBM says the programme enhances the technical knowledge and skills of post-graduate university students, giving them the market-driven knowledge that better positions them for jobs in the information and communications technology market.

The course module is said to be easily adaptable for integration into ongoing lectures. It covers technologies and skills such as System Z, Java, Web 2.0, Eclipse, cell architecture, SOA, high performance computing, Linux, DB2, autonomic computing, Rational, AIX, and enterprise applications.

The company has also been actively involved in school reform programmes including Reinventing Education, IBM'sflagship programme with an investment of $75 million worldwide. More than 100,000 teachers have been trained under this programme globally, and IBM's community service programme currently engages 44,000 employees who have devoted nearly 2 million hours of service to local schools.
