Tata Nano has won the Good Design award, 2010, conferred by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design together with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

Founded in Chicago in 1950, the award recognises innovative product concepts and consumer design. Nano won for its car design in the transportaion category.

The Tata Nano has the smallest exterior footprint for a car in India but is 21 per cent more spacious than the smallest car available today, the company said. The high-seating position makes ingress and egress easy, and the small size coupled with a turning radius of 4 metres, makes it manoeuvrable in the smallest of parking slots, it added.

The car reaches a top speed of 105 kmph and fuel efficiency of 23.6 km/litre.

The Nano was launched in 2008, targeting the bottom of the pyramid users in India owing to its low price brand but the brand has failed to make a huge impact so far.

Tata Motors had recently announced a four-year or 60,000 km manufacturer's warranty for existing as well as new customers to boost its sagging sales. (See: Amid sagging sales, Tata offers 4-year warranty on Nano)
