Molson's Beer fridge that only Canadians can open

Backpackers to Europe could be well advised to have a local Canadian friend, or take one along as a companion.

Because Canadian brewer Molson is offering all the beer you can drink for free – but only to Canadian citizens.

In an unusual (and probably expensive) marketing ploy, Molson has placed beer fridges across Europe, from the streets of London and Brussels to the pastures of Belgium. Inside the fire-red fridges are free stockpiles of Canadian beer.

The bonanza is only for Canadians, however. The cornucopias are locked, and will only open by swiping a Canadian passport. A webcam inside snaps a photo of the passport, and unlocks a beer-guzzler's paradise when it recognizes the document as 100 per cent official maple leaf.

Molson recently reintroduced its old ''I am Canadian'' slogan. Furthering the campaign, the company in charge, Rethink, says that more fridges may be on the way - including at the winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
