Hyundai unveils the new Genesis Coupe at the 2008 New York International Auto Show

South Korea's largest automaker, Hyundai Motor Company, has launched the new Genesis Coupe at the 2008 New York International Auto Show . The 2010 sports coupe model, targeted largely for the US market will compete with the likes of the Ford Mustang, Infiniti G-37 and Mitsubishi Eclipse in the high-end luxury market segment.
The company aims to sell 30,000 Genesis coupes in the United States next year, according to a Hyundai executive. (View the Hyundai Genisis Coupe video)
The entry-level Genesis Coupe 2.0t, with its unique combination of rear-wheel drive and four-cylinder turbo power, offers an alternative to existing front-wheel drive sports coupes, the company reported.
The Genesis is powered by a choice of two petrol engines - a 223PS 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder and a range-topping all-aluminium 310PS, DOHC 3.8-litre V6. It also comes with tansmission choices of a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic.
Genesis Coupe is equipped with a MacPherson strut dual-link front suspension and a five-link rear suspension setup. Both engines are mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission
In a bid to become the most exciting and affordable sport coupe on the road, the Genesis Coupe has a clinically engineered cockpit designed to enhance the driving experience. Salient features include an information display screen, an outside temperature reading information, Infinity audio system, audio-devices charger, sport bucket seats, analog gauges and two-stage front seat warmers. The instrument cluster features Hyundai's signature blue gauge illumination.
The company plans to begin sales of the Genesis Coupe in the US in 2009
