Bombay HC refuses to relax ban on thermocol for Ganesh festival

The Bombay High Court on Friday declined to relax the ban on sale of decoration items made of thermocol for use in the forthcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival in Maharashtra.

The Court dismissed a petition filed by the Thermocol Fabricator and Decoration Association, seeking relaxation of the ban only for this year's Ganesh festival to be celebrated in September.
The manufacture and use of single-use plastic and thermocol for decorations have been banned in Maharashtra. The petition argued the association's members would suffer financial losses if thrmocol decorations are not permitted to be sold.
The association also submitted an undertaking to dispose off the material. 
The court refused to accept the association's undertaking that it would take back the sold thermocol material and dispose it of after the festival.
