Indian Army chief Gen Bikram Singh today declined to comment on the visit of Pakistan Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to a shrine in Ajmer, but said any ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops were getting a fitting reply.

"It (allowing the visit) is a political decision. Let's not make an issue out of it. Let the government take the decision. As Army chief I would not like to comment on it," Singh told reporters in Jaipur, where he was attending the War Decorated India Triennial National Convention-cum-Reunion.

The Indian Army has already conveyed its concerns to the government on ceasefire violations, including the headline-making beheading and mutilation of two Indian soldiers by Pakistani troops on 13 January.

"At that time, we showed our concern ...we have shown our emotions (to the union government)," the Chief of Army Staff said.

He said the Indian Army was giving a "befitting" reply to ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops.

"If they violate ceasefire, hum bhi chudian pehan ke nahin baithe hain (we are not wearing bangles). Our men also fire. This work is done at the tactical level and it is happening," he asserted.
