A marketing manager in Indian Oil Corporation has been arrested in Jaipur for allegedly trying to influence people through the internet to become members of the Islamic State or ISIS terror group.

Mohammad Siraj ud Din used WhatsApp and Facebook to spread ISIS ideology, police said. He was arrested by Rajasthan Police's Anti-Terror Squad under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act on Thursday and is being questioned.

"Sirazuddin, hailing from Gulbarga in Karnataka ... was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for his alleged involvement in (activities of) international terrorist organisation ISIS, supplying official inputs and recruiting organisation members in the country," ATS Additional Director General of Police Alok Tripathi said in Jaipur.

The data analysis of his internet activity shows that he was deeply influenced by ISIS and was trying to draw young Muslims towards the organisation, said Tripathi.  For this, Mohammad Siraj posted messages, photos and videos on WhatsApp groups and Facebook, the police officer said, adding they also found downloaded online magazines of ISIS.

Mohammad Siraj was also trying online to establish contact with ISIS members based in India and abroad, the police said.

"The accused was also active in flaring up and encouraging Muslim youths for (joining) ISIS activities," Tripathi said.

On a complaint, SOG and ATS teams verified antecedents of the accused, and checked his WhatsApp and Facebook accounts. Objectionable materials were seized from his residence in Jaipur, the ADG said, adding he used to contact youths through social media.

A number of issues of ISIS' online magazine "Dabik", pictures, and videos were also recovered from him, he said. Further investigation was on, he said.
