High alert for Mumbai international airport after terror threat

Mumbai: The Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport has been placed under high alert following threats of a terrorist attack, top airport officials said Friday.
According to reports, passengers are being subjected to thorough physical checks, restrictions have been imposed on vehicles halting or parking around the airport and random security checks are being carried out at various places.
The alert was sounded on Thursday night.
Security measures are being put in place by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, the Central Industrial Security Force, the Mumbai International Airport Ltd and all private and government airlines, officials said.
Authorities have been alerted to the use of an Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs), or the use of chemicals in any likely attack.
The city of Mumbai was rocked by three blasts using IEDs on 13 July which resulted in the death of 20 persons and injuries to over 100.
