New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered comprehensive checks of all nineteen A330 aircraft currently operating with Indian carriers. The civil aviation regulator has ordered the checks following the 1 June crash of an Air France A330 liner over the Atlantic that killed 228 people onboard.
While Jet Airways operates 12 A330s, Kingfisher has five and flag carrier Air India operates two. All Indian A330s operate on international routes.
The DGCAs air safety division has sought information from Airbus regarding likely cause of the crash and will act on the information it receives.
It now seems likely that faulty speed sensors may prove to be the culprit. Indian carriers and DGCA sources have stressed that all equipment, including speed sensors, has been checked and are constantly monitored. They say that the A330 is a safe aircraft
