Work on BIAL’s second runway to commence in 2012

Bangalore: Infrastructure major and stake-holder of the Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), GVK Group, said work on laying out a second runway here would be taken up next year.
"Once the Rs1000 crore expansion programme, taken up last year, is completed, work on the second runway will be taken up," GVK group chairman, GVK Reddy, told reporters on the sidelines of the regional celebration of Civil Aviation Centre, organised by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd here.
Reddy also said the company would commence work on the third runway in the next 10-15 years.
"The ongoing expansion programme of widening the terminal from 72,000 sqm to 1.34 lakh sqm was progressing well," he said.
GVK holds 29 per cent stake in BIAL.
