MADC and new venture, Deccan Cargo, in pact to set up cargo hub

Nagpur: Erstwhile Air Deccan promoter, and now vice chairman of a merged Deccan Aviation-Kingfisher Airlines, Captain GR Gopinath, has announced that the new cargo venture promoted by him, Deccan Cargo, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra Airports Development Company (MADC) for setting up a state-of-art cargo hub at the Multi-modal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN).
The MoU was signed by Vilasrao Deshmukh, chief minster of Maharashtra, also chairman of the MADC and Captain Gopinath. Also present on the occasion were union minister for civil aviation, Praful Patel, new and renewable energy minister, Vilas Muttemwar, and MADC managing director, RC Sinha.
Under the provisions of the MoU, according to the chief minister, MADC will provide 50 acres of land to Deccan Cargo, which will then commence work on the cargo hub.
According to energy minster, Muttemwar, an MoU would be signed between the defence ministry, the civil aviation ministry and the MADC by the end of the month, which will allow the handing over of land from the Indian Air Force's Transport Aircraft Project to MADC for constructing a second runway.
