Domestic air passenger traffic up 22.52% in January-June 2016

The number of passengers carried by domestic airlines during the first six months of the year (January-June 2016) increased by 22.52 per cent to 47.58 million against 38.83 million passengers during the corresponding period of the previous year.
Domestic airlines carried 7.98 million passengers in June, a jump of 20.81 per cent over the 6.60 million passengers flown during the same period in the previous year.
The latest data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation shows that IndiGo has retained its number one position having flown 3.02 million passengers with Jet Airways at the second position having flown 1.30 million passengers. State-owned airline Air India carried 1.24 million passengers.
In addition, SpiceJet carried 10.10 lakh passengers in June this year while Vistara flew 2.27 lakh passengers. Vistara is a joint venture between Singapore Airlines and Tata Sons. AirAsia India flew 1.73 lakh passengers.
The combined passenger load factor of all airlines slightly declined in June 2016 compared to the previous month primarily due to the end of tourist season.
Overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines for June 2016 stood at 0.96 per cent.
During June 2016, scheduled domestic airlines received a total of 788 passenger related complaints. The number of complaints per 10,000 passengers carried during June 2016 was 1.0.
During June 2016, all the scheduled domestic airlines complied with the mandatory capacity deployment requirements contained in the Route Dispersal Guidelines.
On-time performance (OTP) of scheduled domestic airlines has been computed for four metro airports, viz, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
