Private carriers owe AAI Rs345.27 crore

New Delhi: Vijay Mallya-promoted Kingfisher Airlines owes over Rs200 crore to the Airport Authority of India (AAI), the Parliament was informed on Thursday. According to the ministry of civil aviation, both Kingfisher and Paramount Airways failed to settle dues on a regular fortnightly basis.
"Their dues exceeded the security deposit/bank guarantees available with AAI," minister Ravi said.
As per the details furnished, Kingfisher Airlines owed AAI Rs208.06 crore, while Paramount Airways owed Rs5.72 crore as of 30 June 2011.
Ravi also said, "Operations of both these airlines have been put on 'cash and carry' basis, bank guarantees submitted by these two airlines have been encashed, penal interest is charged on account of delay in settlement of the bills."
Ravi said the total amount due to AAI from private airlines is Rs345.27 crore, including dues from Kingfisher and Paramount.
In addition, Go Airlines owed Rs6.23 crore, while Indigo, Jet Airways, Jet Lite, Spicejet and others owed Rs10.44 crore, Rs57.66 crore, Rs13.71 crore, Rs16.07 crore and Rs27.38 crore, respectively.
He also revealed that as of 30 June 2011, private airlines owed oil marketing companies Rs1,518.15 crore as payments for supply of aviation turbine fuel.
