Airlines report 14 per cent growth in July traffic

Airlines in the country have reported an average 14 per cent year-on-year growth in domestic passenger segment in July 2010. Official data showed that 4.16 million passengers opted for air travel July 2010.

During the January-July 2010 period, the number of passengers grew 21 per cent to 29.87 million from 24.75 million in the corresponding period last year.

Kingfisher Airlines led the market with 8.15 lakh passengers, followed by Jet Airways with 7.82 lakh passengers and Air India with 7.08 lakh passengers.

Low-cost airline IndiGo flew 6.91 passengers, close to third-placed Air India's figures. SpiceJet flew 5.4 lakh passengers and GoAir 2.28 lakh.

The month, however, saw lower seat factor owing to the monsoons.
