Mumbai: Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines and Deccan have hiked fares, on an average by 10 per cent, in tandem with oil marketing companies increasing the price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF).

Jet, India's largest private carrier, increased its domestic economy class fares by 10 per cent and   business class fares by five per cent.

Kingfisher and Deccan played it slightly different, increasing basic fare by 10 per cent in both classes.

The hikes will be effective from 1 August 2008.

IOC increased the average price of ATF by 2.8 per cent on Thursday also to be effective from Friday.

According to a spokesperson of Jet, ''The hike in fares and ATF prices (on Thursday) is unrelated and it is purely due to commercial reasons.'' It is commonly understood in the market that carriers raise fares in tandem with Air India.

The flag carrier raised fares 10 per cent on Thursday in response to the hike in price of ATF.
