Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian low cost carrier, AirAsia, will fly daily to Trichy (Tiruchirapalli) in the southern part of India from Kuala Lumpur, effective October, offering a two-way flight for Rs5,000, or about $125, inclusive of airport tax.

AirAsia chief executive officer, Tony Fernandez, told Tamil daily Makkal Osai that the flights would provide more opportunities for budget travellers to fly to India.

The fares being offered by AirAsia are bound to hot up competition on the India-Malaysia route, which has lately become a lucrative route thanks to tourist traffic growing at a phenomenal pace.
