02 Apr 2008
New Delhi: With price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) going up 13 per cent on Tuesday, Indian carriers have followed suit with hikes of their own. These include private carriers Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines who have raised domestic fares with Air India soon expected to follow suit.
Kingfisher hiked ATF surcharge by Rs350 for long-haul routes and Rs150 for short-haul ones with immediate effect.
Jet said it would follow suit from 7 April.
Air India officials have discussed the situation but are yet to take a decision.
It is being given to understand that low-cost airlines may adopt differential fuel surcharges on short haul and long haul routes ranging between Rs100 and Rs400.
According to airline operators, ATF prices comprise over 40 per cent of the total operational cost of any airline.
