Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner lands at Delhi’s IGI airport

New Delhi:  Delhi's Indira Gandhi International airport today hosted the much-hyped and much-delayed Boeing 787 Dreamliner, according it the traditional water cannon salute with which new aircraft models are received by an airport.

The aircraft, flashing the livery of All Nippon Airways, the launch customer of the model, will be based at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) for two days, before departing for Mumbai on 15 July.

The aircraft, which carries only crew and some officials, has been parked at a remote parking bay.

The Boeing 787 is expected to be 20 per cent more fuel-efficient than other aircraft its size and will have a range that is between 8,000 and 8,500 nautical miles.

Almost 50 per cent of the Dreamliner's primary structure, including its fuselage and wings, is made of composite materials.

Air India has 27 of these planes on order, while private carrier Jet Airways has orders for ten.
