25 Dec 2010
The Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) saw a 23 per cent passenger traffic growth in 2010 as per its annual air traffic statistics for 2010.
According to the statistics released in Bangalore today, the BIAL also handled the highest number of passengers on a single day since commercial operations started in May 2008.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) says the figures make it the fastest growing airport in the country.
The BIAL also said, business travel revival and an expanding leisure segment, maintained the upward growth trend that continued from July last year, hitting a record 11.24 million passengers this year.
Marcel Hungerbeuhler, BIAL president saw consistency in maintenance of passenger facilities and their improvement as the major factor that has contributed to the growth.
He said passenger traffic during the last quarter stood at 3.06 million while on 17December, 2010, the number of passengers the airport handled was 38,134. He added that both figures were highest ever reported since the airport opened in May 2008.
