Dubai Airport:  New airport scanning equipment that can detect liquids inside bottles and plastic bags is launching in Dubai in November, it has been announced by London-based technology company, Kromek. It said it has developed two new scanning devices which can pick up liquids concealed in a range of objects.

This is also a method used by terrorists to make bombs.

According to the company, the highly sensitive equipment is likely to be used by the Dubai International Airport.

Kromek, owned by New-York based Amphion Innovations, an investment company which operates in the medical and technology sectors, won a £1m contract from the British government to develop the equipment, designed for use in airports.

"These new baggage screening systems will have the ability to produce 3D images of a bag, giving operators a much better visualisation of objects inside and will automatically identify any threat material using new generation detectors," Amphion said in statement.

The Threat Liquid Detection system is being launched in Dubai in November and Washington in the following month.

The company will unveil a plastic bag scanning device in early 2009.
