Kingfisher Airlines deploys cargo solution from IBS

Bangalore: Kingfisher Airlines has tied up with IBS, a global provider of IT solutions for the travel, transportation and logistics industry, for its `iCargoNet' solution with which to manage its cargo business.
   
iCargoNet provides a unified, enterprise-wide solution to help manage the entire cargo business of an airline right from planning, sales, operations, ground handling, unit load device management to cargo revenue accounting and revenue optimisation functions in an integrated and cost-effective manner, VK Mathew, chairman and CEO of IBS group, said here on Wednesday.

iCargoNet will help airlines ensure the profitability of their cargo business by enabling them to optimise the inventory of its flights and monitor capacity utilization as well as the revenue generated by each flight even as the flight builds up before take off.

Kingfisher Airlines is the first Indian customer for IBS' cargo solutions and the first user of iCargoNet worldwide.

The pricing will be in terms of SAS (software as a service) model and would vary depending on transaction volume. The solution is expected to improve revenue and operational efficiency by 10 to 20 per cent.
  
About the air cargo industry scenario, Mathew said cargo traffic was increasing by 6.1 per cent and the world air freight is expected to triple in 17 years. More and more airlines, including Kingfisher, were looking at maximising the use of belly space to carry cargo.

IBS said it was looking at its revenue stabilising at $100 million annually from its iCargo solution as more and more airlines make cargo their core business and look towards IT solutions to manage growing volume.
