Bell Helicopter has signed orders with two emergency medical service providers for 27 helicopters. Bell announced on Monday 17 September that Med-Trans Corporation has signed an agreement for the sale of 11 Bell 407s. The choppers will be delivered between 2009 and 2011. It also said it was selling 16 206L-4 LongRangers to Air Evac Services. Deliveries will be from 2009 to 2011.

Bell says its 407 is particularly suited for emergency medical services (EMS) missions. It allows quick and easy patient loading and unloading through a standard bi-fold door with a five-foot opening. The 407 also provides a smooth ride, owing to an all-composite, four-bladed rotor system, controlled by a full FADEC system.

The 206L-4 evolved from the storied 206B-3. It has a spacious cabin, accommodating two patients and two medical attendants along with space for all necessary medical equipment. Quick and easy patient loading and unloading comes via a standard bi-fold door, similar to that employed on the 407.

Wrap-around windows for the pilots provide superb visibility and a greater safety margin for landings on difficult terrain. Large cabin windows also provide outstanding visibility for medical attendants.
