New Delhi: Qatar Airways said Thursday that it would start a new premium class service that would connect seven major Indian cities with New York and Washington soon. The service would use Doha as a mid-point hub and provide a host of high-end facilities.

"We currently operate daily flights from six cities in India. Out of these six, Delhi, Hyderabad and Kochi will be connected to Washington via Doha from July 19," Naveen Chawla, regional manager of the airline, told reporters here.
"Mumbai and Chennai will be connected to New York via Doha beginning June 26 and from Doha, we will have a technical stop at Geneva which is the airline's second destination in Switzerland after Zurich," he said.

According to Chawla, the airline currently has no plans to connect Thiruvananthapuram, their sixth destination in the country, with any US city, but very likely Ahmedabad and Nagpur might be the ones to be connected with US cities later on in the year.

Though the airline is yet to announce its fares to the US, it was likely that those for the premium class may start from Rs180,000 ($4,400), while that for the economy class may start at Rs45,000 ($1,100), exclusive of taxes.
