Cooch Behar airport to open on I-Day

Air services in Cooch Behar will resume on 15 August, Independence Day, according to Airport Authority of India (AAI) sources.

AAI regional director (east) S P Bakshi is supervising the work, and a trial flight is to take off from the airport on 10 August.

A special Indian Airlines plane will be used for the test flight.

Meanwhile, officials are working round-the-clock on the airport infrastructure. The passenger lounge is being air-conditioned and other facilities at the airport are being spruced up.

Air Deccan, Alliance Air and Kingfisher are interested in operating flights from Cooch Behar airport.
