Toronto: India's leading carrier, Jet Airways, has said that it will introduce new flights between Toronto and New Delhi in August this year. According to officials, the airline will operate five flights per week between Toronto and New Delhi via Brussels or New York in late August and extend them as daily flights later in the year.

Jet spokesman B Chandrasekhar also said Tuesday that Jet Airways would be operating a brand new Airbus 330 aircraft on this route, with two classes of service. While the business class would have 30 flat bed seats, the economy class would have approximately 190 seats.

The Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) has welcomed Jet Airway's announcement to link Toronto with New Delhi. The chamber's president, Ajit Khanna, said it would strengthen linkages between the two countries.

Meanwhile, a Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) delegation has gone to India to finalise the modalities of opening a new route between the two countries. It would also discuss related issues with senior officials of the civil aviation ministry in New Delhi.

According to an ICCC spokesman, the Canada-India Open Skies agreement would allow 35 flights a week.

Jet Airways announcement follows Air Canada's decision to terminate its direct flights to India from May 1.
