Pune: Kingfisher Airlines may well be in the final stages of firming up a business plan to connect the booming industrial city of Pune with country's financial capital, Mumbai. If the plan materialises travelers may make the trip in 19 minutes.

Airline officials said that the plan involves utilizing the respective racecourses of the two cities and 15-seater choppers, which would make a total of six daily flights. Initially the chopper service was being planned as an exclusive service for Kingfisher's first class passengers. But with the Indian Air Force continuing to block additional flights between 6 am and 10 am at Pune, Kingfisher has sensed the extra demand from a booming metropolis and decided to convert the chopper service into a full fledged scheduled passenger service.

Meanwhile, as per the latest traffic figures, the international airport witnessed a 94.8 per cent increase in aircraft movement in January 2007 compared to the same period last year, logging 954 movements in January 2006 as against 1,858 movements in January this year. According to airport officials, the increase in domestic aircraft movements through the airport had been an astounding 225 per cent.
