Pearl Uppal in online retail venture

After quitting Yahoo! India as director Pearl Uppal has partnered with Harish Bahl, founder and CEO, Smile Interactive Technologies Group, which has a stake in interactive agency Quasar, to launch an online retail venture called Fashionandyou.com.
Smile Interactive has incubated online ventures that include online ad network Tyroo.com; travel meta search engine Zoomtra.com, and online travel technology provider Zumtra
The new Uppal - Bahl venture will be targeted at the upper middle class segment and high net worth individuals.
The portal will products like apparel, watches, footwear, handbags, sunglasses and home décor and will go live on 16 November.
Fashionandyou.com's business model will be based on the concept of sample sales, in which a shopping portal organises online sales to sell luxury brands and high-end fashion products at discounted rates of up to 70 per cent.
Usually, an online sample sale event lasts for a limited period (24-72 hours) and a fixed quantity is offered on sale. Only those users who are members of the website can purchase the products. The membership to the portal will be free but based on invitations only.
