S&P president Deven Sharma appointed CRISIL chairman

Deven SharmaMumbai: Deven Sharma, president of the independent credit ratingsStandard & Poor's (S&P), will be the new chairman of its indian subsidiary, CRISIL.

In 2005 Sharma played a key role in S&P's acquisition of a majority stake in CRISIL in 2005.

Sharma took over as president of S&P in 2008, after having joined the US rating agency in 2007 after five years at its parent The McGraw-Hill Companies as executive vice president in charge of global strategy.

A former partner with global consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton, where he spent 14 years, Sharma holds a bachelor's degree from the Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi, a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin, and a doctoral degree in Business Management from Ohio State University.

Sharma has authored several publications on competitive strategy, customer solutions, sales and marketing and serves on the US-China Business Council, and the Asia Society's Business Council.
